It’s been 6 months since my last blog, which followed a very successful Cleaning Show in Birmingham.  Hopefully the next one will be somewhat speedier in being published!

Orbis Cordless Burnisher
We have had a very busy summer consolidating the launch of our highly successful Orbis Cordless Burnisher, which is now being sold around the world, under both the Truvox banner and that of our sister company, Tornado Industries in the USA.

We are very fast approaching 1000 units of the OCB have now been sold around the world, and we’re confident taking our market share for this product into the kind of levels we could only dream about with its predecessor.

Designed and manufactured in our Southampton factory, this product is testimony to the ability of Truvox to develop class leading floorcare equipment for the modern marketplace.  It has already been successful in a number of retail applications thanks to its ability to satisfy the need for high quality daytime cleaning.

Tacony CFC International
Throughout the year we have been working hard to introduce ourselves to as many overseas markets as possible.

Gordon McVean has earned many thousands of air miles travelling the globe, and has now visited all of our key overseas markets.  The help of Peter Holt, our former MD, has been invaluable in smoothing the path for Gordon and introducing him to our international customer base in Australasia, Far East and Japan.

We also have a Sales Manager, Glenn Cederberg, based in Boston, MA, who is responsible for marketing not only Truvox products, but also those from PowrFlite and Tornado, our sister companies in the Tacony Commercial Floorcare Division.

Glenn has been hugely successful in bringing many new customers and marketplaces to Tacony CFC, firstly in Latin America and latterly, with Gordon’s help, the Middle and Far East.

Glenn has single handily won several major contract wins during the first six months of the year, in particular in the Middle East and more recently in Venezuela.

Top 5 Tips for carpet care

Carpets are expensive, so they need the correct care and attention to keep your carpet in peak condition for as long as possible. Truvox International has been at the forefront of carpet and floor care for nearly 50 years, so their carpet specialist Malcolm Barrett has put together his top 5 tips for the very best carpet care.

    1.Carpet type
There are different carpet fibres available for different workplaces. The most common includes nylon and polypropylene. As with any choice, each has its pro's and cons.

Up until recently, nylon was the most popular synthetic fibre used in carpet production. Nylon is the strongest carpet fibre as it is resistant to mould, insects, abrasion, mildew, rot and many chemicals. It is extremely durable, which makes it highly suitable for areas of high traffic. However, as it is synthetic, nylon can melt if exposed to fire or very high temperatures heat. It is also more susceptible to coffee or tea stains and some acid-type foods such as mustard or ketchup. It can be difficult to remove these stains once they dry.

Polypropylene carpets are becoming more widely used in the workplace. It is easy to care for, more economical and can withstand footfall well. However, it is not as resilient as other fibres and can look unsightly when soiled.

    2.Carpet Wear
When an area experiences high traffic day-in, day-out, the carpets can look worn and tired. Some carpet cleaning methods can leave the carpet fibres looking worn and lifeless, making a bad situation even worse. When using soap-based shampoos and machines with rotating brushes, existing stains spread over a larger area and dirt is embedded further into the carpet. Carpets don't get any cleaner, and can re-soil even faster with the chemical product attracting even  more dust and dirt.

In the long term, contractors may be tempted to replace dull carpets, and that can be very costly. However, with encapsulation cleaning the lifespan of carpets can be prolonged. Encapsulation cleaning is a cost-effective and highly productive cleaning method that works by trapping and encapsulating dirt as it dries, and then vacuuming away the crystallised polymers to leave carpets visibly  cleaner and brighter.

    3.Colourfast test
Before carpets are cleaned and treated, a colour fast test is needed to ensure that colours don’t run or bleed together once cleaning begins. To do a colourfast test, you should apply a small amount of the cleaning solution you want to use to an inconspicuous area of your carpet using a cloth and apply pressure. If dye is absorbed, then the solution is not suitable for your carpet. Usually wool is more susceptible to the colourfast test, however, most commercial carpets will pass the test.

    4.Adequate ventilation
With any chemical and solvent uses, it is important to have adequate ventilation in areas where carpets are cleaned. You should open all windows and doors if possible to allow maximum ventilation so there is plenty of fresh air in the room. This not only addresses safety issues but also allows the carpet to dry quicker so that it can be back in use sooner.

5.Choosing the right equipmentA business may have invested in a carpet that is suited to all their needs, selected the right fibre that can withstand high footfall and is stain-resistant (-to some extent). To make sure that businesses make the best out of their carpets, the right equipment must be used to maintain and prolong the life of any carpet so that it stays clean and fresh for as long as possible.

Professional carpet cleaners might opt to use Truvox’s Hydromist 55. Combining an in-line heater and variable spray injection of up to 400psi, the Hydromist 55  can remove embedded stains leaving carpets fresh and clean. For even better results, the Cimex-Encap solution utilises encapsulation cleaning technology to remove even the deepest and toughest of stains. By vacuuming away the crystallised dirt and dust, carpets get cleaner and brighter with each application.

The Cleaning Show 2009

It’s the week after the Cleaning Show, and everyone’s busy sorting, distributing and following up the huge number of leads generated.

Thanks to everyone who came to visit us on the stand, we hope you enjoyed the experience. It was great to meet so many people in a short space of time. We saw a number of familiar faces but also a lot of new ones, both from the UK and overseas.

Everyone was impressed by the stand, great work by the Truvox Marketing team who had it all set up ready to hit the floor running at 10.00 on Tuesday, then managed it so well for the 3 days.

Now the show’s over we’re all back at the factory busy making and despatching machines and spares to meet customer orders, while the sales teams are out and about chasing down more business.

Europropre 2009

We have another show at the end of March, this time the Europropre Show in Paris, which starts on 31st March – hopefully we’ll see you there!

New Faces
